Nos Quedamos

I worked as a tenant organizer in the South Bronx for Nos Quedamos/We Stay, as part of the ANHD Community Development Fellowship. I hosted and planned public education sessions in English and Spanish for tenants about affordable housing, climate, and community land trusts. I canvassed, phone-banked, tabled, and spoke at rallies (one covered here in the Mott Haven Herald) and town halls to recruit leadership for the community land trust and other Bronx-wide initiatives, like Bronx Power and the NYCCLI coalition. There’s almost nothing I love more than tenant organizing: hosting creative political education sessions, knocking on neighbors doors, speaking at rallies, helping tenants get what they need (from marshmallows for Thanksgiving in food distribution to COVID tests to babysitting), working with the most brilliant team of youth environmental justice organizers, helping the organization turn standard affordable housing into a Community Land Trust, and canvassing about South Bronx climate and housing issues. Nos Quedamos, I’ll love you forever!
