I Am Malala Bookclub on...

My favorite moment I’ve ever blocked. Photo by Jesse Herndon, plexiglass by Home Depot (the one on College Boulevard)

I directed Mehrnaz Tiv’s new play I AM MALALA BOOKCLUB MEETING ON SUNDAY NOVEMBER 12, 2023, produced by Good Apple Collective’s inaugural Rootstock Readings series. Our show, whose casting was featured in Broadway World, starred Utkarsh Rajesh as CAITLYN/MALALA, Spoorti Hegde as PAUL/TV/RADIO, Saskia Naidoo as JEAN/MEDITATION, and Alex Scelso as ADRIENNE. This experimental play, about suburban ladies at their Sunday book club meeting at the local public library stumbling their way around discussing this week’s section of I Am Malala until the world ends, touches on my favorite topics: suburban desire, consumption, neoliberalism, and if it is ethical for a director to force their actors to drink Torani syrup on stage (joking!)
